Spring Newsletter
8:04pm - Jul 2, 2008
Spring is finally here! With it comes many exciting events to the
Haywood County Agriculture and Activities Center. We hope you will
visit many of the upcoming events and support your community. All money
generated from events at the HCAAC is spent on various projects,
maintenance, repair, and operating expenses. All board members are
volunteers who donate many hours overseeing facility operations. In
addition to board members, there are many committee members not on the
board, and many community volunteers, including schools, law
enforcement, and individuals that work tirelessly to make Haywood
County a better community. If you are interested in helping with a
project or event, please call 828-456-3575 and put your name on the
list. Someone will be contacting you to let you know how you can help.
Our ongoing project at the moment is more arena seating. A few
months ago 750 permanent bleacher seats were installed. An additional
section will be installed in the next few months, bringing our seating
capacity to 1500. As funds become available, additional bleacher
sections will be purchased for a final seating capacity of 2700. Pisgah
High School students are building a stage with electrical outlets for
sound for the arena. THANK YOU ALL! Our future plans are to enclose and
heat the arena. If you would like to make a donation or be a sponsor,
visit our homepage and click on sponsors to see how you can help us and
we will advertise for you.
If you have not brought the family
to one of our monthly fundraiser Flea Markets held the first Saturday
each month, mark you calendar for April 5! We fix breakfast so you
don’t have to! Other concessions are also available. Get up early and
come on down to find the bargain of the day!
Don Smart and
Neal Stamey would be delighted if you would join them for the Spring
Farm Equipment Auction to be held April 12, 2008. If you have something
to sell, call 828-456-3575 for information. For more details, click on
the Events tab on the website and type Equipment Auction in the search
box. Start your day with breakfast with us, and concessions will be
available all day.
Everybody loves a circus! Bring the whole
family and have some real fun on April 13 when the Louis and Clark
Circus will be in town. Cotton candy, elephants, tigers, and clowns
will cheer the winter blahs away!
ARC of Haywood County gets the
balls rollin’ and the crowd goes wild when they bring the 9-Ball Shoot
Out to our facilities. Ready, set, lights up, balls racked, cues
chalked, sweaty palms. ACTION is what it is when Gary Caldwell presents
championship trophies April 23 through April 27. Come join in the fun
and help Gary in this fundraiser for a worthy cause for citizens of
Haywood County.
STRAWBERRIES are coming to the May 3rd Flea
Market! Yum, yum! To reserve your berries early, call 828-456-3575.
Berries are $10.00 a gallon and the vendor again this year is Cooley
Farms, so you know they are sweet and juicy and an extra handful goes
in each bucket. They won’t last long, so hurry on down! You might just
find a great bargain at the flea market too!
Fish Fry is what I
heard Wallace Messer say last week! That’s right, coming in May. I
tried to find Wallace to see what day and what kind of fish he was
frying, but you guessed it, he’s out fishin’! This is our second annual
fish fry, so bring a hungry crowd and enjoy fish, hushpuppies,
coleslaw, baked beans, and yummy desert. The date to mark your calendar
will be published real soon.
Equipment Auction Great Success
8:04pm - Jul 2, 2008
We would like to thank everyone who had a part in our
very successful Spring Equipment Auction. Gross sales just for
equipment exceeded $94,000. Food sales were great too. Many board
members, community partners, friends from outside Haywood County, and
others who just wanted to be a part of helping us raise much needed
money for improvements to the fair grounds, showed their support by
contributing their time, services, supplies, and donations that made
for a mighty successful fundraiser. To all of you that made this
possible, we say a very heart-felt "thank you"!
STRAWBERRY SALES REPORT
8:03pm - Jul 2, 2008
Wow! Everybody must love strawberries! 1500 gallons
{yes, 1500} were delivered by J E Cooley Farms in South Carolina to our
door late Friday when picking was finished. Folks that arrived at the
Flea Market on Saturday after 9:30 a.m. did not take home any
strawberries. They were all gone! If you missed the berries, we have
plans to sell them again as soon as we can coordinate with Mr. Cooley.
We will let you know. If you want to reserve your order, call the
county extension office at 828-456-3575. Look for our notice in the
local paper or this website when the berries will be for sale.
